Veterans Day: Symbols of Service

As a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB), Calibre continually seeks to honor and support those who have served our country. As part of this effort,  we set up a veterans display case in our office to recognize the experiences of our team members who have served. The case holds personal items from Calibre employees who have served or are still serving, with each item representing a story, a tradition, or a moment of pride. 

For Veterans Day, two of our team members shared the stories and personal meanings behind the items they contributed. They explained what each item means to them and their service. 

Unit Challenge Coin - Emelia Brooks-Sisco, PE

Air National Guard Civil Engineer Operations Flight Commander

Emelia contributed her unit challenge coin from the 138th Civil Engineer Squadron. “Challenge coins have been used for more than a century to recognize excellence among the ranks,” she explained. “Commanders and leaders carry them to honor someone on the spot for doing something awesome.”

Her coin represents nearly a decade of leadership and camaraderie. “It symbolizes the men and women I’ve led for the past nine years—and the brand and legacy our team has built together,” Emelia said. The design captures the spirit of her squadron: engineers, craftsmen, firefighters, and emergency managers united under the banner of The Tulsa Bison—Ready, Reliable, and Effective.

Bronze Star Medal Certificate - Dennis Conner, Jr.

Dennis shared a framed copy of his Bronze Star with Valor certificate and narrative. “This part of my career means much more than a personal accomplishment,” he reflected. During that mission, intelligence gathered by his team helped lead to the capture of Saddam Hussein, marking a pivotal moment in U.S. history.

What mattered most to Dennis, however, wasn’t the recognition—it was the people. “I was able to bring every Soldier on my team home without physical harm,” he said. “Our mission paved the way for success in future operations and a new era in light infantry tactics throughout Iraq.”

To all veterans, thank you for your service, sacrifice, and commitment. We’re grateful for the difference you’ve made in our lives and our country. Whether your story is shared or kept private, you’ve made a difference. Today, and every day, we honor you.
